This research aims to analyze the implementation of Indonesian language learning through a multicultural approach in secondary schools and its impact on students' understanding of cultural diversity as well as the improvement of language skills. The multicultural approach in language learning focuses on integrating diverse cultural values into the teaching and learning process, with the goal of enhancing students' awareness and appreciation of Indonesia's cultural diversity. The research method used is qualitative study with a case study approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of teaching documents.
The results show that the implementation of the multicultural approach in Indonesian language learning can increase students' interest and motivation in learning. Students become more active in discussions and demonstrate a better understanding of cultural contexts in language use. Additionally, this approach also fosters the creation of an inclusive learning environment that values differences, contributing to the formation of tolerant and respectful attitudes among students.
However, the research also found some challenges, such as the lack of teaching materials supporting the multicultural approach and the limited training for teachers in implementing these teaching strategies. Therefore, it is recommended that schools and relevant stakeholders be more active in providing adequate resources and training to support the implementation of multicultural learning.
Thus, this research concludes that the multicultural approach in Indonesian language learning in secondary schools has great potential to enhance the quality of language education and build cultural awareness among students, although it still requires further support in terms of resources and training.
