Abstract

This research uses the literature study method, this research discusses selective breeding in tilapia. Selective breeding is a biotechnology development process carried out on plants or animals with desired traits. Selective breeding is done in order to produce offspring with superior genetics. A selective breeding program using the individual selection method successfully improved the growth performance of Janti ss F5 white tilapia. Indicators of the success of the breeding program included an increase in weight, total length, and the genetic improvement value of measurable phenotypic traits.  The results of a study comparing reproductive traits of Kunti tilapia F6 and F7 had a major impact. F6 tilapia outperformed F7 in several variables such as hatchability, egg weight and diameter, yolk weight and length, and yolk holding larvae weight and length.
