Potensi Bulu Babi Sebagai Bahan Nutraceutical
Main Article Content
Abstract
Sea urchins or Sea urchins are marine biota that have high economic value and can be used as food and medicine. Sea urchins contain bioactive compounds from the steroid, triterpenoid and saponin classes. The presence of bioactive compounds has caused sea urchins to have traditionally been used as a nutraceutical for diabetes mellitus, antimalarial, anticancer, antibiotic and also as an antibacterial. Indonesia is a country that is rich in various types of sea urchins and is an exporter of sea urchin gonads, but until now it does not have an industry that processes sea urchins into sea urchin extract as a nutraceutical ingredient. Meanwhile, research on sea urchin gonads or sea urchin shells is still limited to extracts. Considering the potentially potential resources of sea urchins in Indonesia, research into the pharmaceutical and health fields needs to be increased. The research is expected to support the pharmaceutical industry which processes sea urchins into nutraceutical ingredients.
