Flavr Savr tomatoes are the same as other tomato varieties, the only difference being their ability to slow down ripening time so they have a longer storage time. This is caused by the insertion of an antifreeze gene originating from flounder fish. The aim of this research is to study and understand more about flavr savr tomatoes, which are a type of tomato that has undergone genetic engineering and also to compare the reproductive performance of flavr savr tomatoes with conventional tomato varieties (Solanum lycopersicum L). This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods. The reproductive performance between the transgenic tomato species flavr savr and the conventional tomato species (Solanum lycopersicum L.) during the planting process until the harvesting process was almost the same. However, there is a difference in the initial process, namely that flavr savr tomatoes are made by inserting a gene that produces the antisense polygalacturonase enzyme which is able to maintain its firmness longer than ordinary tomatoes.
